| Our junior firefighters are the future of the fire service. Our job is to share as much knowledge and wisdom as possible. With that said, Monday night, some of our juniors under the guidance of the on duty crew trained on skills that are normally reserved for our senior members.
The juniors worked on properly putting on and taking off their fire gear. Believe it or not there really is a proper way to do it in an efficient manner. The seasoned members gave tips to the juniors on this. The crews also practiced advancing hose lines while geared up and wearing self contained breathing apparatus, commonly referred to as SCBA. This would simulate going into a building fire. One of the advantages of this is it gives the junior members an opportunity to understand the difficulties involved. As junior members, they can not go inside of building fires, but they can be vital assistance when there are difficulties inside. This type of training also helps them to recognize what could go wrong before it does and help fix it.
Junior membership starts at the age of 14 and is a great way for teens to be part of something bigger, develop respect and discipline. Its also a great way to make new lifelong friends. If you are interested in junior membership, check out our join link on top of our website.
