This past weekend was filled with an array of trainings for the Exeter Township Volunteer Fire Department. Members took to Berks County Fire Training Center for the May live burn session, where teams focused on different fire ground activities, including fire attack, incident command, RIT and search. While the live burn was happening, members took part in a flashover simulator training that was held at the department's training site in Stonersville. The training focused on helping firefighters understand and recognize the signs of developing flashover conditions and what steps they should take to escape danger. Another member completed their Pump Operations II certification at Montgomery County Fire Academy. The class, which helps aspiring driver operators understand the advanced techniques of operating pumps, is one of the department's prerequisites to become a qualified driver. Finally, members working toward earning their Firefighter I certification took part in Fire Ground Support (Mod 2) at Station 3 (Stonersville). A special thank you to the firefighters from Western Berks Fire Department and Birdsboro-Union Fire Department who joined our flashover simulator training. And thank you to Exeter Township Supervisor Jack Piho and State Representative Jacklyn Rusnock for observing our live burn session.
